The 221B Daily

A new edition from Baker Street every morning.

About this paper

A daily Holmes mystery, in his own world.

The 221B Daily is an independent fan paper. Every morning we publish a new Sherlock Holmes case in the world Sir Arthur Conan Doyle made: fog over Baker Street, the Strand at sixpence, hansoms outside the Diogenes Club. You read along with Watson, then enter your verdict before Holmes reveals the solution.

The cases are written with the help of generative AI, then run through an adversarial verifier that checks them for solvability, fair play, period accuracy, and tone. Cases that fail verification are not published. The seven launch-week cases were hand-authored and serve as the always-available fallback when the daily generator has a bad day.

Our public-domain stance

We work only with the public-domain Holmes — the canon published before 1928. The 1923 ruling and the subsequent settlements clarified that the basic Holmes character, Watson, Mrs Hudson, 221B Baker Street, and the great majority of their adventures are free of any rights claim. We do not draw on the four post-1923 stories. We are not affiliated with the Conan Doyle Estate, Sherlock & Co., Frogwares Ireland Ltd, MX Publishing, or any other Holmes publisher or society.

Who makes this

The 221B Daily is built and edited by Danny Conlong, a long-time Sherlockian. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, the cases are generated with Anthropic’s Claude, and the audio is narrated by Azure’s en-GB Ryan Neural voice. Email questions, errata, or your own verdict to hello@the221bdaily.com.
